2. Grow Trough (Substrate Base Hydroponics): Unlike NFT systems, grow trough hydroponics utilize inert substrates like perlite, vermiculite, or gravel to support plant growth.

 The substrate holds moisture and nutrients around the plant roots while allowing excess water to drain away. This method provides greater stability for larger plants and offers more flexibility in nutrient management (Jensen, 2015).

Federal Government Injects $120 Million to Stimulate Gas Production

     

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a payment to gas suppliers of more than $120 million in an effort to stimulate the nation's energy sector, a major step towards increasing gas output in the country.

Director of the Decade of Gas Secretariat, Ed. Ubong made this news during Thursday's 7th Edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2024).

During the summit, Ubong gave a speech titled "From Blueprint to Reality: Navigating Nigeria’s Gas Decade and Balanced Narrative on Energy Transitions," in which he emphasised the government's resolve to lowering the amount of unpaid debt to gas producers.

By 2023, there will be about $1.3 billion in arrears; the recent payments are a proactive move towards paying these off.

Ubong also stressed the importance of finishing the OB3 gas pipeline project while outlining the government's plan to pay off the remaining debt burden.

When this pipeline is fully operational, it will be able to access enormous gas reserves, believed to be between 300 and 600 million tonnes. 

These reserves will then be easily integrated into the network of the Ajeokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline.

Ubong stated the Secretariat's dedication to involving interns and young professionals, urging them to contribute their knowledge towards accomplishing more general sectoral objectives in an effort to bolster the workforce in the gas industry.

The Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) President, Akachukwu Nwokedi, expressed worries, nevertheless, about the detrimental implications of certain taxes, levies, and regulatory policies on commercial activities within the industry.

Nwokedi underlined how critical it is that the government harmonise and streamline tax laws in order to spur economic expansion and draw in foreign capital.

The announcement comes in the wake of challenges faced by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which cited constraints in gas supply as a primary factor contributing to low levels of power generation and distribution across the country.

Expanding Hope: The Story Behind the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Project

Long before the first rails were installed and the first stations were constructed, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line project started its journey. It's a tale of hope, tenacity, and the steadfast conviction that every Lagosian can have a better future.

The impending necessity to solve Lagos State's mounting transit issues gave rise to the concept of the Red Line project. With a population of more than 20 million and an urban area that was growing quickly, the city was finding it difficult to meet the needs of its citizens.

For millions of Lagosians, long commutes, congested roads, and a lack of reliable public transit choices have become the norm, negatively affecting their quality of life and impeding the city's economic progress. It was imperative to take action to reduce the load and reroute the city's transport system.

Introducing the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), a company founded by Governor Bola Tinubu twenty years ago. Entrusted with the mission of revolutionising Lagos's transportation environment, LAMATA began building a comprehensive mass transit system that would offer all citizens access to secure, effective, and reasonably priced modes of transportation.

The LRMT Red Line project's concept evolved over several years of meticulous planning, viability assessments, and community involvement. Government representatives, urban planners, transit specialists, and community leaders worked together to realise a common goal of creating a Lagos that is more linked and easily accessible.

President Tinubu launched the first phase of the Red Line project on Thursday, marking the end of years of arduous labour and commitment. The Red Line connects eight key stations—Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo—across a 27-kilometer stretch from Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo in Lagos.

However, the adventure is far from over. The LRMT Red Line has a bright future ahead of it with agreements inked for the start of the second phase of the project. There are also plans to expand the line even further, linking more communities and enhancing accessibility.
